You are totally misinformed or you are a blind iFanboy. As per a story on Appleinsider today, Android web share is actually higher than that of iPhone.

Maybe you should read the article a little closer before you make accusations. All Android devices combined exceed the iPhone. Which the article points out is not an apples to apples comparison. There was no breakdown by Android smartphones to make a legitimate comparison to the iPhone.

It might be interesting to see if games for phones become a profitable revenue stream for game developers since they can skip several of the middle men via downloading games, instead of through traditional retail.

I think that was shown to be the case a long time ago.

    "Google has detected". Interesting.

And.. there's profanity in the Mac OS X Dictionary?

What would be nice is if some variation of tooltips could be used to preview images or documents in the Finder. I'd like to be able to hover over the icon of an image file and have the image float above my cursor so I can quickly see what it is.

The Geocaching.com website implements such a feature for viewing images. As an example, visit this geocache page (http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=889b2a51-fcb7-422c-844c-cab2a6afb990), and scroll down to the cache logs. On October 7, someone posted a log with 4 pictures (HB1.jpg, HB2.jpg, etc.) Roll your mouse over the picture icon.

That's what I want my Finder to do.

Your argument would be valid for the G4, but doesn't really hold much water considering that G5s were the PowerPC equivalent to a Pentium 4 - they have 16 stage integer pipelines and can go as many as 25 stages depending on the instruction.

OTOH, they could hold twice as many simultaneous instructions as a P4 could.

Not gonna happen. For starters, how do you type in names for your audio tracks when you've got your keyboard swapped for a mixer? :)

    Still, neat idea.

Look at the diagram again. The mixer could be placed below the keyboard, where that trackpad and wrist rests would normally be....

oh, HELL no. Please don't tell me you're serious. Can you actually imagine someone carrying around a portfolio of these plates to lay on their computer? That's worse than an 8" floppy!!!

    Unbelievable.

I pray this never sees the light of day.

    -Clive

I doubt people would carry them around. I think this is more about offering customized MB/MBP input interfaces for specific educational or professional purposes.

Apple killed the beauty of this method with 10.4.4, when JPEG icons started to be rendered as ugly pixellated images with black borders. As far as I can tell this problem has not been addressed. So, I'm still running 10.4.3. If this page-curl materialises, and I have to use it, it will piss me off no end. It is completely pointless.

My JPEGs all look fine. No black border, crystal-clear. Perhaps you are using Graphic Converter? That generates some ugly previews but is still by far the best image conversion app I've seen.

iCal has been a disaster for 4 OS X releases now. It is, without a doubt, Apple's worse application. It's missing functionality, basic functionality, that has been in every calendaring program since 1992.

iCal is a sad example of Apple going to far to the extreme of minimization.

All I really wanted in the last 2 OS updates was a decent iCal. It's the only thing on the Mac that continually hurts my productivity.

I've learned that iCal is just the price of being a Mac guy, and I don't hope for greatness. Heck, I don't even hope for mediocrity. iCal is always going to be slow, inconsistent UI and barely usable.

iCal... ~sigh~. If only, if only. I need to send invitations to Outlook users-- but iCal refuses to do so. iCal is slow, even worse than Entourage. The interface is extremely un-Apple in that it takes up the entire screen to use effectively. Integration with Address Book and Mail is nice, though.

If you don't like iCal and it doesn't fit your needs, try something like Entourage. Maybe coming from your PC background it'll feel more at home? Part of the MS office suite. Yes I know MS ewww. But it's there
Entourage doesn't integrate with OS X well enough for me. Address Book and Mail both work great, plus are much faster. And I don't need to use Word, PowerPoint, etc. that often. Excel is something I do a fair bit of work in... but rarely. Entourage also has bad errors every once in a while, loosing files and stuff.

From what I've seen of it on cars, carbon fiber is quite susceptible to scratching, and scratches can look very prominent. Not sure it would make such a great enclosure material. True, it would be better for WiFi transmission, but it would also keep more heat in. Possibly a replacement for plastic, but IMO not a replacement for unibody aluminum.

not into body mutilation and the extreme forms of personal expression, but one tastefully placed ring or piece of hardware on a female of choice can be very attractive... :D

I can't remember which commentator it was but when asked "The last thing we want is for the test to be washed out. That's no way to end the series" he responded "No, I think we'll take a win whichever way we can".

A result would still be nice. :(

if you look at the apple store, the picture with the new shuffle and the earphones show the old earphones ones..didnt steve say they are coming out with new earphones? as shown on the apple store with the nano? i wonder if the shuffle gets the old ones still...hmmmm

    http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wo/0.RSLID?mco=7F013154&nclm=iPodshuffle
Steve never said the shuffle was coming with the new earbuds...however he did make it clear that they were coming with the other new iPods:(

Maybe word will stop crashing on documents with to many tables, and PowerPoint will stop crashing on large presentations editing animations.

    Maybe.

... and crashing when refreshing or editing a graph in Excel when a cell in the PivotTable from which graph was drawn is selected. I am working with a 114 MB Excel document and I am not amused when this happens....

Still, Office is great. I just wish they'd spend more time getting rid of obvious bugs in the Mac version.

If you can, try to get your hands on the latest (late 2005) models.

I used to have the DualCore 2GHz model and it was pretty decent back in the days. Upgrades are pretty cheap (due to DDR2 RAM and PCIe slots) and the machines run cool and quiet.

You even have the possibility to flash Nvidia 7800 cards (the most powerful you can get for the G5) and run up to 16GB of RAM. Combine this with a small SSD for boot and a large mechanical drive for data and you've got a pretty decent machine that still runs most of today's tasks.

The market cap of Netflix is 12 billion, add another 3 to 5 billion for a buyers premium, and it would take a pretty large chunk of the Apple cash reserves.

I think you are right. Buying Netflix would be like paying $1200 per subscriber (isn't this astonishing? Imagine Apple would paying you $10 a month for ten years for watching movies). Better to invest less than 15 billion dollars and try to build something own. Also Apple is extremely conservative and cautious in buying other companies. They only buy relatively small firms every few years.

Hope this fixes me breakfast. And fixes my screen flash on display wake (MBP) and occasional freeze on wake from sleep problems.

Hey, slightly OT, but does it make sense to anyone else that it should be possible to tell the laptops to shut down, then close the lid and not have them go to sleep halfway through the shutdown process?

2)I don't think the iOS has come a long way...I have the 3GS model which is 3+ years old...the only difference between the 3GS and the 4 is better camera/video and Facetime. iOS has barely changed. I have NUMEROUS iOS enhancements that Apple could put into the iPhone yet they still do not exist. iPhone 3/4 is very nice, but I have to tell you that as I see more and more Androids out there, the Androids look extremely competitive if not better than iPhone.

Two words: UI responsiveness. The huge boost the A4 provides makes the iPhone 4 worlds better than the iPhone 3/3GS. In relation to Android devices, their UI responsiveness SUCKS, even when they're running a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, which makes using them an exercise in frustration.

iOS rocks the socks off Android from a UI responsiveness perspective, and this is a CRUCIAL PIECE in growing and maintaining a user base. Most people don't care about the tech specs. They just want a device that meets their needs and feels "fast," and Apple has been able to provide that far better than any other smartphone maker.

Yeah, fancy that, a nation that still believes in crime and punishment.

"Can't do the time? Don't do the crime".

I 100% agree!!! Criminal laws and processes are always correct and just!!!

    1. If a law is passed criminalizing certain actions, thoughts or beliefs then there's no doubt that those actions, thoughts or beliefs are crimes.
    2. The punishment for a crime is always correct. Punishments are never too extreme nor too lax. Whatever process that has determined the punishment for a particular crime cannot be questions. Because, well, you know: "Can't do the time? Don't do the crime."

Now now, calling Budweiser a beer is a stretch as it is and calling it a lager is an insult to any properly brewed lager out there. Like someone else in this thread stated before it's a cheap diluted ricewine with hops added for something pretending to be taste. As for Chimay, never had it but if it is in the same range of products as that .... stuff.... from Anheusser operates in, it probably isn't a belgium ale either.....
    Cheers,

    Ahmed

Oh I agree... I merely saying it for the sake of saying it since it was being discussed that is all. Couldn't agree more!
