The 13"ers are always gonna be 13"ers. Trust me, they would rationalize their purchase even if the 11" was 1600x900.

I was pissed off first too but I had the 360 from the lunch and I had fun play all this games. You did buy the 360 because it was what you wanted and you can still play same games without the hdmi, so I am happy. Good for the new customers too they have more options to choose between.

And if I remember right it was a rumor when they did lunch, that they should add hdmi later next year.

She watches her shows with headphones, I get work done.

Maybe it hasn't been mentioned before: TV sound is clear and stereophonic (if the TV show is broadcasted in stereo of course) on my iPhone 3G, tested with very good Sennheiser earbuds. Image quality very good via WiFi (live TV) and via 3G (recorded files) as well. Striking!

I connected the iPhone with Apple AV cable (composite) to my TV set: Sound will be streamed to the TV set, video not (live tv and recorded files).

Had some hickups with the update to Mac/EyeTV version 3.2 on my MacBook Pro. With 3.1.x (the most recent version before) I launched the menue command "look for updates", it found 3.2 and did a download and obviously an automatic update with EyeTV restart (sort of).

Then the app simply refused to launch with message "the file seems to be broken or incomplete" and I had to bring back the old EyeTV version with Time Machine for being able to accomplish that "look for updates"-thingy again! At the next try the update worked but I had to do a MBP restart to get the EyeTV iPhone connection working (see my previous postings in this thread).

The new iPhone app works fine so far in my WiFi network but I have 3G connection problems *) sometimes. Occasionally it crashes to homescreen when I hit some command in the "video window"/player sub-app (full screen, pause...). Otherwise all player controls like time shift or "go back 30 s" are doing fine on my iPhone. Good "EyeTV feeling" as usual. (BTW I've played around a while with other solutions and dare to say that Elgato EyeTV -- here hybrid and 610 -- is the most comfortable way to watch TV in our days by far.)

I tried to record a TV show remotely. Works fine. It would be nice to have a record button in the "video window" (player app) so it's only possible via "Guide" (called "EPG" in German-language version). I needs a time (about half of the runtime) to convert the (stopped) record to iPhone format but then it's "ready to play" the recorded file stream out of the "Recordings" folder. Scheduling via "Guide" works nicely as well.

    Edit:

*) Can be solved sometimes by switching off and on "EyeTV preferences – iPhone – Use My EyeTV". Get a screenshot here at German-language Elgato support (http://support.elgato.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=3645&languageid=4&group=germandefault).

Because it's not switched on by default: Added a screenshot where to activate UPnP at Netgear routers (highlighted the menue items). Then EyeTV for iPhones should work (everything except live TV) via 3G after creating an account at "My EyeTV service". Works pretty well here with the six or seven years old device.

I can see iDVD disappearing. That's not to say that the product isn't useful to people who still use DVDs, but if Apple isn't going down the Bluray road, then what can they really do to improve it? My prediction is that next year optical drives will start to disappear from Macs and will simply be an external option.

I've had problems with stability trying to overclock but maybe when I have some time I can do some tweeking.

Well so far old stuff just sits around :D I have 4 identical naked amd rigs I should get on ebay, they were too slow to make a difference in my points, plus other odds and ends I don't use any more.

well if you are having trouble overclocking, i'd be happy to help you out. i'm not the best either, but i've been learning.

so did you upgrade to that 6-core processor? or did you build a new system around it?

Outside the door to General Motors' Washington office is a photo of the Chevy Volt framed by the U.S. Capitol.
GM loves to market the Volt, the 2011 Motor Trend Car of the Year ("A car of the future you can drive today.") It's an engineering breakthrough, a darling of the "green" media and evidence that stodgy old GM knows how to innovate.
So why, I asked Mike Robinson, GM's vice president of environment, energy and safety policy, is GM selling so few Volts? Just 321 in January, 281 in February, according to GM's monthly sales report. By comparison, Chevy sold nearly 70,000 Silverado pickup trucks during those two months.
"We're on target," he assured me. "We've probably got orders for every one we can build in the next year." Chevy plans to sell 10,000 Volts this year, and another 45,000 next year and, if all goes well, a lot more after that.

    link (http://www.greenbiz.com/blog/2011/03/25/why-gms-sustainability-chief-charged-about-volt#ixzz1HdK1btSl)

so, only about 600 volts this year? seems low.

What about a thin layer of Liquid Metal combined with the Carbon Fiber to make a super strong material that looks metal from the outside. Just enough Liquid Metal to smooth the finish and protect from shock or compression.

I wonder if this is possible?

You're not going to increase the strength of carbon fibre by adding liquid metal to the equation. And you'd be talking about a ridiculously expensive product.

A lot of high end cars have carbon fiber body panels that are painted.
    ie. C6 ZO6

Formula 1 sets the standard for this (and just about anything technology-related in racing.) It takes paint and holds up well.

No way they use carbon fiber. That's just a step back.

It's a step back aesthetically and environmentally for Apple. But it would make for a nearly indestructible laptop enclosure.

It think what many of us feel (most of us?) is that iCal's a little useless without being integrated into Mail. Having to shuttle back and forth is inefficient. The little "shortcuts" (hacks) that Apple seems to be using make it even more annoying in my opinion. They don't want to go head to head with entourage, I get it, but until you do, iCal gets deleted from my machine.

If you don't like iCal and it doesn't fit your needs, try something like Entourage. Maybe coming from your PC background it'll feel more at home? Part of the MS office suite. Yes I know MS ewww. But it's there

I had a quad for yonks, never had a drama with the LCS. and i had the delphi unit.

As did I.. and if I had a lot of money in my bank at the time I would NOT have traded up the G5 for the mac pro.. I would have gotten a 2006 for 1500.00 and then traded it up for a higher mac pro.. but instead, dummy me.. decided to complete my journey to Intel by getting rid of my G4 MDD and G5 Quad - stupid mistake on my part..

Only 3 years later to yearn for another G5 Quad.. mine was unique in that it was one of the LAST ones made in 2006 and its LCS was very reliable.. never a problem.. I am now taking my chances getting another one, only hoping its LCS won't die on me.

Uhm, what is everyone talking about?

Obviously it's not network traffic, because apple isn't going to provide us with a better "network" traffic service.

Also, why is everyone bringing up turn by turn?

The better "traffic service" likely means that Apple will be able to know the speed of vehicles on the road, and from that decide how well traffic is moving through a specific highway. That way if someone wanted to open up the maps application and see what traffic is like, they could see this because there could likely be enough people on that road with iPhones reporting traffic movement. This data is reported to Apple and they will respond back to that map user with the current traffic flow.

Google already does this (http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2009/08/bright-side-of-sitting-in-traffic.html), and since Apple purchased a mapping company while ago, I assume they are just doing the same.

People with PCs must not leave their houses much...I've been to coffee shops and airports all over, and it seems about half of the laptops I see are Apple.

I concurr. Almost every concert I go to now, I see a MacBook on stage. I see mac notebooks everywhere. One thing I hate is when i see people dissuading potential buyers away from macintoshes, simply because Windows is the more common operating system, when most of the time, these are new computer buyers and wouldn't be able to use Wwindows in the first place.

Does anyone think that Jobs will release the Generation 6 iPod around the same time the Zune is released? The press coverage of the new iPod would put the Zune release a small story in the back of the newspaper. The new iPod would get all the headlines and MS would not get that much attention with their release. If you look at it from a marketing standpoint it would make a lot of sense. All the tech stories would revolve around the release of the new iPod, PS3, and the Wii. How could the Zune compete with that when all of the coverage is going to the heavy hitters? Jobs knows how to handle to press so I think that this really makes sense. Any thoughts?

Sooo...you don't see any problems that would occur if muslims became a majority there? Such as Iran part 2, sharia law. There's nothing racist about wanting israel to not become a muslim country. They wanted to partition it, but the palestinians wouldn't take that offer. they could have had their own "peaceful" nation by now. The chose not to, now they can deal with it. Let me ask you, would you consider yourself racist if muslims began playing a major role in canadian politics and imposing Islamic law on all canadians and you had a problem with it? Israel today is a modern secular nation, it is know as a "jewish" state, but their laws are secular. Why would they want to risk ruining all of that? They've made a great country out of the hell hole that land once was. You need to look at it from their POV. If the palestinians were peaceful secularists, there would be no problem right now.

Who said anything about a Muslim state? Please don't spin the topic.

It doesn't matter if the Palestinians were majority Christian, Muslim, Atheists, Spanish, Chinese etc... this solution would still not be possible because the fundamentalist Jews want it for Jews. They are "Jewish only" settlements for a reason. Even if the Palestinians were peaceful secularists (no doubt many are), Israel would still not allow a large influx of non-Jews because it would clash with the ideology upon which Israel was founded. This applies to everyone from Gazans wanting to become Israeli citizens to foreign workers from all over the world who work in Israel.

You can never compare Israel to countries like Canada or the US. In the latter countries, everyone regardless of religion or creed has equal rights and is equal under the law, whereas in the former, people of a certain religion are favoured, seen as superior. They are polar opposite ideologies. The Israelis have excellent PR, but at its core their ideology is not compatible with anything we here in the west consider modern or civilized. It is very much like that of the Arab states.

One final note, when Israel was created the majority population in the region was non-Jewish. To populate Israel with Jews, they shipped them from around the world. The problem is it is next to impossible to maintain a Jewish majority in an area where historically it has been majority non-Jewish, unless you kick a lot of people out, prevent them from coming back or travelling freely, and bring a lot of people in from abroad.

It's just despicable really. What's more sad is people who go out of their way to justify and defend this, without fully even knowing what it is they're justifying and defending.

December's actually later than I was expecting. I was fully expecting a big release for the iPod's 5th birthday (later this month).

Very good point. How long before a media event does Apple usually send out invites? If the 5th anniversary is October 23rd and the possible launch for this anniversary then we shoul be hearing about it soon. Pure speculation of course but it would be cool.

Now, I don't care who does and who doesn't have Thanksgiving Day -- the point is December would be to late for a lot of people to add an iPod video to their shopping list and Apple would get a lot of returns from those who bought a 5.5g for hte kids.

I don't think Apple is delaying the annoncement for any other reason other than they are unable to iron out some production problem or another -- I am sure if it were ready the iPid video would be out ASAP. Now timing is an issue with a MWSF announcement (next to revamped MBP and a new Mac Tower (something between an mini and a Pro) and availability not long there after.

    Well, I hope...
